92-93 Era
The 92-93 – Houston Oiler Dancers – “Bringing Back the Oiler Cheerleaders
The Houston Oilers Derrick Dolls Cheerleaders disbanded from 1987-1991, but came back as the Houston Oilers Dancers in 1992 under the direction of former Derrick Doll Myrna Santos Smith. The new squad concept featured beautiful and talented dancers performing themed halftime shows featuring rigorous choreography. Dance Choreographers were Alex and Victoria Taylor Arizpe. Sideline and halftime choreography ranged from classical jazz to hip-hop.
Memorable halftime performances included Janet Jackson's "Rhythm Nation," Michael Jackson's "Thriller," and a 1940's-themed "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy." A pre-season highlight was the game in Tokyo at the Tokyo Dome versus the Dallas Cowboys in August 1992. The Houston Oilers Dancers also featured an intra-squad performance troupe know as the show troupe.
