LUV YA PINK!
Yes! We Are On A Mission and we are not giving up!!!!
The Houston Oilers Derrick Dolls Alumni are working together with their community helping to support and bring awareness for the fight against breast cancer. Our platform is to empower and encourage women and men of all ages to see their doctors, schedule their mammograms, perform self-breast exams and to help raise money for research in the continued effort to prevent and cure this disease! We are encouraging everyone to join us, especially our “Luv Ya Blue” fans to walk in Houston during different times of the year sponsored by Susan G. Komen and Avon 39.
Adopting the slogan “Luv Ya Pink,” the Derrick Dolls Alumni annually participate with Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure-Houston that typically takes place in the fall and with Avon 39, a two day walk in the spring. We race/walk with survivors to cheer and celebrate them, to remember and honor those who have lost the fight but most importantly we race/walk to raise the funds needed for education programs, breast cancer screenings and treatments.
“Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in the U.S. and around the world. In 2017, about 255,180 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in the U.S. alone. Progress in treatment and early detection has led to improved survival for people of all ages and races, and with all stages of breast cancer. In fact, there are more than 3.1 million breast cancer survivors in the U.S. today (more than any other group of cancer survivors)” - Harvard Medical School faculty and Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women's Cancer Center.
